New interest in politics and world news

For all of my life, I never cared about the news or politics, mostly because it dealt with issues that never affected me personally, or people lying, or people making a big fuss about something stupid and not really worthy of news. As of recently, I’ve gotten a lot more interested in what’s going on in the news (actual news, not pop culture trash).

Here’s a few things I’ve learned recently:

- Humans have been abusing the earth over the last century. Now the earth is finally in the process of adapting to the abuse, and is therefore cleansing itself (An Inconvenient Truth, extinction of biodiversity)

- The war in Iraq is getting out of hand. Looks like a civil war is coming, along with Iraq being the new home base for extremist Islamic Jihad. (USAToday)

- Iran is out to reshape the Middle East for itself (GNN)

- Israel starts an all-out war with the Hezbollah in Lebanon – Origins of the war, and what’s happening there (GNN)

- Fidel Castro undergoes surgery, cedes temporary power to his younger brother, lots of people start thinking Fidel’s reign in Cuba is over and that the government will be changing from a dictatorship to more of a parlimentary rule (Reuters)

My guess is that we humans will destroy ourselves way before the earth gets its chance to
